Project Story

70% of plastic waste enters the ocean through rivers. Committed to positively impacting the environment, we have strengthened our efforts in removing plastics in the Bengkong River by installing a series of river barriers and collaborating with local fishermen and environmental agencies to stop plastic leakage from the river to the ocean.

Riau Archipelago

Bintan and Batam Island in Indonesia grapple with intense ocean plastic pollution management. The pollution not only harms marine life but the health and life of local communities too. With more than a million population in both places, we are tackling this issue with our crews to create a positive impact on the environment and local communities, where we have already recovered almost 2,000,000kg of plastic.

HIPPO

Thailand ranks 6th in poor plastic waste management. Our mission is to help remove and tackle the heavy plastic pollution in the Chao Phraya River in collaboration with the buddhist temple of Wat Chak Daeng with our low-cost, low-tech, and high-impact solution: the High Impact Plastic Pollution remOver (HIPPO). This renewable energy-powered solution automatically collects plastic waste from the river.

Facilities

To improve collected waste management and promote better and further recycling, we have set up two Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) in our sites. Our MRF lets us sort and recycle the collected plastics from our daily cleanup activities. This multi-purpose facilities also serves as a base for our collection crews, provides educational space and experiences for community engagement, and for research on turning non-recyclable materials into sustainable composites for complete circularity.
