Adopt-a-spot Partnership
Line in the Sand has engaged Nature Conservation Margaret River Region to deliver a 5 year strategic program of coastal stewardship in the Margaret River Region. The Program commenced in 2020, and program activities, funding and deliverables will be determined and reset on a year by year basis. The areas of focus for the partnership are outlined below. LITS and Nature Conservations Margaret River are working collaboratively with local volunteer coast care groups to ensure the region’s coastal ecosystems are managed according to the best practice and are strong and resilient to face the challenges of people and climate change.
WA Coastal Award Win
In 2022, Adopt A Spot received a special commendation in the education and engagement category at the 2022 WA Coastal Awards for Excellence.
The ‘Adopt a Spot’ Program involves more than 200 students in year four, from nine local primary schools from Yallingup to Augusta. in twelve months the students planted more than 2000 cuttings, almost 900 seedling and laid down 5 trailer-loads of brush to protect seedlings and dunes.
Sites that have been cared for and rehabilitated include riparian zones along the Margaret River and its tributaries, as well as coastal and foreshore conservation at some of the region’s most popular beaches, including Redgate, Hamelin Bay, Cowaramup Bay and Yallingup.
