Project Story
Fire-Management
The neglect of the traditional fire management approach resulted in the occurrence of massive and uncontrollable wildfires across the land. Since the upheaval of colonisation, our country has unfortunately endured the devastating impacts of these damaging wildfires. Nevertheless, thanks to the implementation of carbon for savanna fire management, proper fire management practices are being reclaimed for Jawoyn land.
WALFA
Jawoyn were an early participant in carbon economy.
Together with four other Arnhem Land ranger groups - Wardekken, Mimal, Djelk and Ardjamarlarl - we contributed to the successful West Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (WALFA) project, which pioneered the
savanna burning approach to emissions reduction.
