Lifeblood - 2023

Dimensions - 320 x 240 x 740 cm
Materials - Corten Steel

Artist Statement - “Lifeblood” is an exploration of the interconnectedness in nature, drawing inspiration from Earth’s rivers, tributaries, and their ophidian form. The sculpture represents the vital force that flows through all living organisms, inspiring reverence, and reflection on our responsibility to protect the lifeblood of our planet’s ecosystems.

Everclime has calculated the emissions to include all materials, consumables, energy used and freight from Perth to Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi, Sydney, with a total carbon footprint 9.40t CO2e that has been offset.

Tipping Point - 2021

Dimensions - 310 x 240 x 320 cm
Materials - Stainless Steel and Corten Steel

Artist Statement - The earth's ecosystem has valiantly coped with and even overcome stresses from human activities for millennia.

Today we are stressing our collective climate and creating feedback loops that push ecosystems to a point of no return.

The urgency around limiting global warming to well below 2.0C is to avoid reaching these irreversible tipping points.

Johannes used 1.2 tonnes of steel which together with the energy used to fabricate the work produced 2.5 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide which was all offset with carbon credits.

Symphony in C - 2020

Dimensions - 280 x 280 x 300 cm
Materials - Corten, Stainless Steel

Artist Statement - “Symphony in C” - the movement of carbon between land, atmosphere and ocean is known as the “Carbon Cycle”.

This cycle of carbon emission and sequestration, in harmony for millennia, is now interrupted by human activity and will require a symphony of global climate actions to return it to equilibrium.

Johannes is committed to sourcing Green Steel which is steel produced using environmentally friendly and sustainable methods. This involves using renewable energy sources, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and minimising and recycling waste during the production process.

Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The SDGs provide a comprehensive framework for addressing the world's most pressing economic, social, and environmental challenges.

Global impact groups play a crucial role in supporting the SDGs by creating mechanisms to mobilise resources, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive collective action toward achieving the goals. These groups have the capacity to leverage their expertise and resources to make a significant positive impact.
